Tara Lattimore is excited to join the Realistic Expectations team as an advanced intern! She is completing her MSW degree at the University of Texas at Arlington and is passionate about offering compassionate care. Tara is Australian-American, bisexual, and grew up overseas in Jakarta, Indonesia, before moving to the United States as an adult to complete her BA in psychology at Barnard College in NYC. Before finding social work, she studied Chinese Medicine in Austin and China, eventually earning her doctorate. She feels privileged to have worked and studied in many different medical settings as an acupuncturist for over a decade and worked in an outpatient hospital setting at Baylor Scott & White until late 2022. While there, she specialized in working with oncology and chronic pain patients and received many referrals for patients experiencing anxiety while navigating the medical system.
With her experience, she has seen first-hand how important mental health is for holistic well-being and has become passionate about patient advocacy, which inspired her to eventually pursue her social work degree. While she no longer practices acupuncture and herbal medicine full-time, she still holds a current license through the Texas Medical Board and can incorporate different tools from her training, like acupressure for stress reduction and mindfulness meditation, including Qigong. It is her goal to provide kind, culturally competent, gender-affirming care, with empathy and compassion.
Additional specialties include, working with clients experiencing chronic pain and autoimmune disease complications, people who identify as Third Culture Kids (TCKs), and individuals who are childfree by choice.
She lives in Austin, Texas, with her husband and three dogs and enjoys hiking, reading, painting, and playing board games in her spare time.
